Office Design Trends Not Worth Your Time

Office Design Trends Not Worth Your Time

Similar to other trends, like home interiors, fashion, and others, 3 decades from now, we will all find out that what we had considered so stylish back then didn’t really measure up in terms of beauty or efficiency. Office design falls into one of those trends. If we are to look at some of the trendiest office designs, they may appear to be heaven and earth today with designers telling you such designs can bring out the best in your team or group. The question is, how many of those trends have lasted for a long time? Unfortunately, none.

Here are a couple of trendy office design that is not worth breaking your head over; you don’t want to spend your money on any of these.

Reclaimed Wood

This doesn’t make reclaimed wood any less important than it already is. Don’t get me wrong. Reclaimed wood is not only amazing, but also has eco-friendly features and can last a long time. Unfortunately, it is a trend that is becoming too popular in the wrong corners. Reclaimed wood does not look like the best choice when you consider what you are trying to achieve. Therefore, if reclaimed wood does not align with your brand and long-term business objectives, there are better alternatives that fit the bill.

Too Much Fun

Many offices are beginning to look more fun than they should. Office design like climbing walls, slides, ball pits & holes for sliding down to lower levels are becoming all too familiar. Although they surely sound like a great idea for any workplace, incorporating more than the necessary fun in any working environment can be a no-no. In line with your brand and business objectives, a low-level application of fun will be more appropriate for your business.

A Casual Office Space

An office is an office. It is easy for a team member to forget that they are on a crucial project because of the way the environment looks. Trying to make your office space look too relaxed is not going to help your team in any way. An office design that keeps things official no matter how casual the space may look is what is best for work.

Standing & Walking Desks

Various reports have revealed that it’s bad to sit all day. The response to such revelations has been the implementation of standing desks and treadmill in offices hardly ever used by employees. Although the initiative was a good one to help workers feel healthier during working hours, it was later discovered that it didn’t change anything in the eyes of employees. The story was the same all over, employees could not care less about such new office design.

Imitating Other Businesses

A look and feel that works for a particular business may not be the same type that will work for your business. Be sure to patronize an office design that aligns with your business goals and brand. When you imitate other businesses in their designs, chances are that you would be unhappy with that design in the near future. Simply replicating other business designs have never worked for anyone. What you can do is to settle down and assess your needs, your brand, and a design that will most likely reflect your business positively.

Although there are countless trends that are appropriate for your business, some other trends are not worth your time or money. Those trends may be okay for some businesses, but they are not fit for all businesses. You need an office design that is perfect for your business.
